The incident takes place after the Cryptus Campaign of the Blood Angels, which occurred in 998.M41. Does that narrow things down at all?

Then the civil war on Ksi'm'yen must be in the future!

You also have the imperium distortion effect on human data. It might be more perception then fact for a time reference. Think like Xenology, and how it had a human context of interpretation.

I also thought the Earthcaste had full proof ways of genestearler detection already. We are not new to Nids.

The difference is that Xenology clearly has an unreliable narrator, while timeline entries are presented as unvarnished truth. As for detection -- the tau were able to catch the genestealer. Then they decided to experiment on it... and of course, their quarantine protocols were compromised, and a cult took root and festered for twenty years.

(And who isn't to say that this 'unusual' aun hasn't already been compromised, too?)

It's very likely that by the end of the Time of Ending, or whatever they're going to call the oncoming 8th Edition, we'll see a slide forward into the future so maybe that explains the Genestealer entry, otherwise it's just more sloppiness from GW.

I preferred the FF fluff, but, it looks like that might be falling by the wayside, which is a pity.

As to the Genestealer's ability to infiltrate the Empire, I've always found it too difficult but not impossible. After all, there is a Genestealer cult on Terra as of the Coming Storm.
