[April, 2013] A Day to Embrace Change - Chaos Repelled

A Day to Embrace Change - April Fools Event 2013 (just prior to Tau Empire Codex release)
Edited by Fio'O Tael

Due to the massive emotional emanations for expectant Codex change by all the Tau about the ATT Orbital, a warp rift forms - and the minions of C'corakxl'Verchakzeen the Everlasting pour through, assaulting the orbital suddenly and without pause, quickly taking over the leadership.

The members of ATT rally quickly, at first confused by the sudden changes to the administration members, first blood is drawn and then suddenly, the entire Orbital was a warzone as Tau fought the turned!

What was a minor gag and fun dress up for the Administration team, became one of the most interactive and epic stories told on our forum.. read on and see how it began to charge like a Kroot Ox into a massive multiplayer RPG event :

The ATT orbital is under attack...

It's defenders are falling one by one...

24 hours of Tzeentchian horror, the clock is ticking...

The powers of the Deceiver have been taking their toll on the integrity of other threads. As a counter measure, the foolish Tau resistors have attempted to hold a battle line in this very thread. Please continue any further battles here.

Distress signal acknowledged, we are mobilizing three platoons of Cadian style guardsmen and two platoons of Tau style guardsmen. They are in route to your position now. Be aware that the 86th enhanced armored company is to follow shortly. For the Greater Good, and my the Emperor grant us strength to remove the taint of chaos from our world!

*Throws a pulse carbine with a comm bead tapped to the side* Here, catch! And follow me, I'll explain what I know on the way!

Anyways, my one big question is about the markerlights. Are they basically unchanged or completely different? Also will they be easier get in useful numbers? All codex only tau lists I build have a minimum of 8 pathfinders simply so I have markerlights. With the GW approved stuff the drone sensor towers are extremely useful in making up for the BS3 on the majority of our troops. It never really made sense to me that Tau firewarriors, bred and trained their entire lives purely for war, have the same skill with a gun as a guardsmen just out of basic training. In my mind BS is divided up like this:

BS2 = knows which end is the loud end
BS3 = basic training in marksmanship
BS4 = advanced gunnery training and marksmanship
BS5+ = enhanced through techological or other means

To me Firewarriors fall into the BS4 category, so is there any chance of that change? I love my firewarriors I just hate that 7 point per model veteran guardsmen have a better BS then my 10 point per model warriors. The BS change would also help with the reliance on markerlights but...

It seems that any changes to markerlights will be minor at most. However, it seems that the Aircraft at least have the option for mounting a markerlight, so it is possible that we may have more places to get them.

As for the BS issue, I've come to think that BS4 isn't just from extensive training and equipment, but also comes from experience, which is why veteran guardsmen and battle hardened Space Marines have it but comparatively green Firewarriors do not. However, this does make me wonder if perhaps the Cadre Fireblade might confer some sort of accuracy boost as well as volley fire to nearby Firewarriors...

Spoiler!
Gue'vessa Arc'Aroth, this is Kor'vattra fleet K-42, now on station around the compromised orbital. We will gladly provide what support we can if you can provide accurate information, transmitting latest comms frequencies to you now over secure channel. Good hunting, hopefully we can save this orbital before it's too late. Tau'va.

Gue'vessa Arc'Aroth, this is K-42, your wish is our command. Kor'O to Fire Control, all vessels. Free fire zone declared, co-ordinates follows. Bring railcannons around and set to firing solution 7-7-640-niner-niner at tactical support power levels. Range at optimum. Avoid vehicles broadcasting tau marker beacons on the following channel frequencies, and try not to hit too much of the orbital. Traffic control, order all available Mantas and surface support craft to scramble and vector to the Gue'vessa's position, they'll need all the air-cover they can get. Good hunting, Tau'va.

K-42, I'm at a launch bay now. My cadre and the survivors we've picked up have set up around a pair of Mantas and the Kor that are with us are prepping them for launch. Transmitting ident codes now, don't shoot them down when they're in flight, though a fighter escort would be nice. Have a security team or two on standby when they dock as well, I don't trust anything about this situation.

May the Ethereals smile upon us.

One of the kneeled Fire Warriors found that he had a grenade on his belt. He grabbed and primed it.

"For the Greater Good, death to the Fake Gods!"

The grenade flew true and landed right behind the false ethereal, blowing the front row of the deamons to hell, back to where they had come from.

"Run!"

The kneeling Tau needed no extra encouragement and began to sprint back the way they had come.

The false ethereal's powers were to great though, and he cut them down while they ran.

As searing flashes from lasguns and pulse rifles filled the air, accompanied by the rising cacophony of screams and ominous chants from the variety of monstrosities summoned to this pristine orbital, Ba-kak ran for the storage racks of the fire castes XV battle suits.

Desperately trying to remember the access codes and function checks the senior fio caste orbital orientation member has briefed him over, not several dec ago.
The young and stocky tau came to a sliding stop behind a XV maintenance and repair dock, just as a fresh wave of monstrosities poured from a walkway leading to the weary perimeter of fire warriors.
Finding his chance to make a difference for the greater good, Ba-kak bounded from cover to the access console of the battle suits. Moving from XV to XV, he reattached hydrolic hoses and primed weapon couplings that he had been maintaining on the previous work shift.
Before the klaxons had sounded, before the madness had erupted. When he was doing what he knew, he pondered.

Upon seeing the diagnosis display for the final battlesuit flick to the affirmative, Ba-kak depressed the comm beads input button
"K-42 and appropriate shas warriors! Port side rack of battle suits are operational and waiting sir!"

Ba-kak needed no further reason to now sprint to the waiting manta for extraction upon seeing a twitching, charred stingray like deamon collapse metres from where he was

Switching to new comms channels now. K-42, how far out are those mantas? I have an injured Aun that needs immediate medivac!

Falssse Aun, you have served the forces of change well this day. However, the tide of battle shifts and changessss ever so, and it would be prudent that you update your first post to cover the new developments in resistance around the new Tau release thread. (EDIT: never mind, Arcani's got them covered).

Mont'au! It looks like this frequency is already compromised. All units, I'm re-encrypting my comms channels. Check with the fleet command of K-42 for updates.

*Walks onto abandoned control deck and upto viewing window *

We Tau were such a strange species. We submitted others to our will with claims we knew more than they. However when asked to one who knows greater than ourselves we reject.

*Regards K-42 Holding it's position before walking to a terminal*

An experiment is necessary, how do Tau respond when ones already submitted to them turn against them.

*Places hand on terminal, retracts it a moment later. Returns to window as drone controlled systems begin opening fire on K-42*

O'Emark, 39th Vash'ya, reporting here:
We have reached the Gue'vesa Mechanized Unit.
It seems that most of them have been overrun. A quick body count suggest that about a third have survived. Regarding past communication we are not sure if they are friendly or if they have been corrupted. If you find members of the Gue'vesa Mechanized unit treat them with suspicion until you can quarantine them.
We are moving to fourth deck. Beta Cadre has lead.
Green Team, Beta Cadre, walked carefully through the wreckage of the passages between the fifth and the fourth deck. Some of the fiercest fighting had been in this area and the walls were torn and the floor looked like a moon with severe asteroid problems. Most of the ceiling had been blown out and there were cables, that should have performed various productive functions, hanging out and sparking.
Green Four suddenly called out, "I found something."
"Please specify Green Four," Green Lead replied, halting the team with a raised fist.
"The remains of four or five Gue'vesa of the Mechanized unit. It's pretty ugly."
Green Lead was about to relay this to the main unit when enemy fire, literally balls of flame, started to come down the corridor towards him.
Change, glorious change!

You fools have forfeited your chance to submit. Now, you shall burn!

Smiling serenely, the False Ethereal waded through the carnage of the Tau battle line - in the chaos erupting, they still thought him loyal. Now in the centre of the formation, Aun Tier breathed deep the desperation around him, and shouted out 'Praise the Deceiver!'
At this moment, fire belched around him, engulfing those Tau nearest, and steadily spreading outwards. As the Tau burned, a maniacal laughter resonated throughout the walls of the doomed orbital.

You cannot win. Your battleships will be brought low, and their occupants slaughtered. It would be easiest to submit now to a (slightly) less anguished death. :crafty:
Truth was flame against a sleeping lake of petrol.
"Kor'O, attack runs were a success, the main weaponry on the orbital's fleetside hemisphere is out cold. Returning to launch bay for re-arming and refuling. Tau'va."

Good work Kor'vres! That should take some of the pressure off us. Kor'la, how long until the orbital completes it's rotational cycle?

"About 10 decs, according to the latest tactical readout Kor'O."

Good, that will buy us some time.

Alright, that's the last of the emergency bracing protocols off. What's the damage?

"Better than I thought, Kor'O. The shields and ablative plating took the worst of it, and the Orcas report that they evaded what salvoes were directed their way. One of the Ga'leaths reports a badly damaged portside manoeuvring pod, and another has a launch-bay temporarily offline."

Mont'au, how long until repairs can be completed?

"Fio teams are already working at maximum ability, however it's estimated they won't be finished for another 8 decs."

Damnit, they may have to pull back to a secondary position soon.

Beta Cadre, this is Kor'vattra fleet K-42, holding perimeter orbit around the rogue orbital. Fire-support is available, provided you give accurate information. Good hunting, Tau'va.
This is O'Emark to all Tau units:
What is your status? Repeat, what is your status? I feel like I'm fighting this war alone here!
Red Team, Alpha Cadre, pulled up as they heard ion shots being fired.
"This is Red, confirm Contact!"
"Thi *crackle* reen, we have *crackle* on passage 4tfo *crackle*."
"Red Four, can you bring up their position on the HUD?" asked Red Lead to his team member.
"Trying... Got it! It's approximated but we should be able to find them!"
"Okay, Red Team, fall out, staggered column, fire team pairs! This is Red Lead to 39 Lead, we are moving in to support Green at the following coordinates," this last sentece Red Lead spoke into his helmet mic, communicating with O'Emark.
"Copy, Red Lead. We will regroup and head your way soon!" responded the Shas'O.
This is Kakapo cadre, we're still here and firing, for now at least. We're currently holed up in a launch bay evacuating loyal non-combatants and key equipment. Resistance is relatively light for now but it's steadily increasing. Good hunting!
Fio, Are the submunition charges in place yet?

"Yes Kakapo, the charges are installed and primed. Patching detonation codes through to you now. Any nasties that come through the main doors will be in for a nasty surprise indeed..."

"Kakapo, I have movement! Multiple signals converging on the launch bays!"

Ok shas here they come, lock and load! *prepares the detonator*

"O'Emark, this is Kor'vre B'Aloh! My squadron is vectoring to your current position to provide cover and support. Mark us up some targets and get clear!"

shas'la Retha'la, if you're not already tied up my cadre could use every bit of help defending this launch bay while the evacuation is underway. Alternatively you could take your team and see if the Gue'vessa are still around, it's been a while since I've heard anything on their channels. Does anyone know who's in supreme command of the defense effort?
Green Team was pinned down, huddling in doorways or prone on the floor, trying to return fire. It was a bottleneck if Green Lead had ever seen one.
"Green Team, grenades on my mark!"
Response cries came back as each of the seven other Tau in Green Team took out one or two grenades and primed them to explode on contact.
"Mark!"
The grenades exploded on contact and stunned the unseen enemy that was raining fireballs on them. The Tau took good use of the time they had and took better cover, either running into rooms, off onto adjacent hallways or picking up paneling that was lying on the floor and bracing it like a shield.
Now they were ready for a fight.

That's probably the funniest thing I've read/heard in a while.
It is useful though, who knows how many poor Shas'la have been sucked into the void through a whole in the Orbital's hull.
