A cheer went up across the bridge of K-42's flagship as the second battlecruiser was blasted apart, it's hull reduced to a tattered hulk. The first battlecruiser and it's interlocking void shields may have resisted so far, but the other Imperial ships had no such enhancements, and were helpless before the fury of K-42.

Soon all that would remain of the Imperial fleet was the first battlecruiser, drifting and vulnerable after the combined efforts of the nova strike and the Ko'Vash'Da, and now at the mercy of the Tau...

Aun Ryumyo watched the tac screen closely:
"Shas'Nel, please open a com channel to the commanding Kor of the fleet. I need a confirmation, if this battlecruiser", he pointed at the Vnaheimr" is really on an attack pattern towards this", he pointed at the Jotunheim" Battleship is. And if it is, open a channel to the Vanaheimr, I think it is called. And do so now!"

Shas'la CmdrCASh settled down into a familiar routine. Now with the chain of command restored and a steady stream of orders flowing down from Shas'ar'tol, service to the Greater Good was a simple matter of listening and executing his assigned tasks.

From the progress of the glowing icons flashed on his helmet HUD, it would seem that control of the Orbital was was almost back in the hands of friendly forces. Yet now he recalled the experienced 'ui Tash'Shi telling him a while ago that the Gue'la were a sneaky bunch and surprises were to be expected from them...

Aun Ryumyo, this is K-42. Warship identified as 'Vnahemir' does appear to be approaching the remaining Gue'la battlecruiser. It's motives are currently unknown, but our onboard analysts suspect it might be preparing for a transfer of cargo or personnel, possibly to escape. Tau'va.

EDIT: Whoops, looks like this is in the wrong order.

Half a minute later, the com channel to the Vanaheimr was opened.
"Vanaheimr, this is Aun Ryumyo, please answer. Vanaheimr, this is Aun Ryumyo, please answer. We offer you a truce and assistance in the destruction of the Jotunheim, if you wish. Vanaheimr, please answer."

Dask oriented himself. The quickest path to the command deck, avoiding bulkheads to save time, would be near here. Already he could hear the advance teams scouting the approach.

He had a few seconds, so he composed himself. There was no guarantee the Jotunheim was still operational, not until he heard from the Arch Magos. Which meant he'd need to make it to one of the stashed teleport beacons. His options were limited, but the Emperor lights the path of those that seek his wisdom. He would not fail.

He let the advance team pass, resisting the urge to cut their throats on the spot. The larger group appeared in the corridor, escorted by the bulky XV battlesuits the xenos loved to hide in. Dask melted back into the shadows and said a prayer.

"From the blasphemy of the fallen, our emperor deliver us"
He drew his knife.
"from the begetting of daemons, our emperor deliver us"
He readied the detonators.
"from the curse of the mutant, our emperor deliver us"
They were in position, he pushed the first detonator. Charges he and Elmo had planted throughout Bay 4 erupted. Petrochemical fires enveloped all in the bay, burning the xeno heretics even as they applauded their own victory. The gathered civilians unable to leave earlier, the soldiers converging to protect the false data core, everyone, would burn in holy fire. The escort in the hall paused as the explosions sent ripples through the Orbital.
"a morte perpetua, Domine, libra nos"
He pressed the second detonator and the hallway was enveloped in smoke, micro EMP's momentarily disabled the battlesuit optic sensors. The smoke cleared and Aun Ryumyo sat on the deck, clutching her stump of a wrist, the data gone with her hand and the deadman's device on the floor in front of her. The emp bursts must have disabled the receiver momentarily...

Dask sped down the hallways, pausing only to kill the few xeno patrols he encountered in his path. Taleghan still had not responded, which meant he may be wasting his time, but the faithless accomplish naught, so he sped on.

Sorrowhand, just re-supplied by a covert supply shuttle, had rushed towards the commotion when they heard the explosions, and as they rounded the corner the Shas'vre picked up a familiar sensor contact speeding towards them from the commotion. It seemed that at least one Gue'la operatice had escaped. As the knife wielding operative rounded the corner however, he ran straight into a well prepared gunline. Screen-breaker rounds once again slammed into his form, followed by plasma fire and hypersonic slugs. The team knew they had no time to waste, for these Gue'la had proven to be extremely deadly. By the time the operative had hit the ground, they were gone, withdrawn again into the shadows and leaving behind only a bundle of photon and frag grenades..

All Tau and allied units, this is K-42. Analysis complete of recovered sample obtained by SITC team Storytale. We have now cracked the operative's stealth fields, transmitting appropriate scan frequencies to all units.

Lyeotius paused in his advance across the light cruiser's launch bay to vox a response back to the bridge. "The xenos appear to offer their hand in friendship, but any victory gained through comprise is but bitter defeat. We will not yield. Make no response, offer no entreaty."

The Lord Inquisitor turned to the strike force arrayed before him -- several teams of Kaskrin stormtroopers, supported by a squad of Adepta Sororitas Battle Sisters. "We have come too far, sacrificed too much, to defile ourselves with xenos aid now. The Council of Herculia has demanded the obliteration of the rogue Arch Magos Taleghan, and we will deliver. We will fight our way on board the
Jotunheim, find the heretic, and consign his what remains of his twisted soul to hell."

Spinning from the hallway she had been covering to again lean over the tech's shoulder, Shas'Nel Kato'Lyn urged him onward.

"Quickly."

The operative was already flying across the controls bring up the new metrics and overlaying them across the security system. All over the orbital objects began to suddenly appear in hallways and corridors. Hidden explosives and swift moving agents who until now had been shielded from sight. Quick hands highlighted and tagged the objects and uploaded them to the HUDs of all Tau forces across the IFF frequencies.

Nel'Kato'Lyn pointed to one screen at the assailed assassin being fired upon by the SITC.

"There! Lock that corridor and connecting passages down with security fields. As well as three floors above and below. That thing has escaped already more times than we can count, take no chances."

Her eyes flashed to another feed that highlighted the outlines of team three and seven approaching the carnage of where the Ethereal had been ambushed.

"Team three, secure the Aun and report immediately to the med bay. Team seven, I am marking a way point on your HUDs. That is your target. It has been hit and possibly wounded by allied forces. Respond with all force. I don't care if you glass that entire section of the orbital shut that thing down."

Icons flickered their affirmatives as they split and headed in two directions. She watched as team three de-cloak startling the retinue with the Aun, but quickly ID'd themselves and helped get the retinue back under way, only this time to emergency bays to stem the flow of Aun blood on the decks. Meanwhile team seven closed swiftly with where they had last seen the Imperial Assassin, force walls shimmering off to allow the silent commandos to pass and closing behind them.

One Kor'Ui emptied an extinguisher into his console while others yelled across to each other as the bridge tried to recover from the blast.

The old Kor'O leaned heavily on the command console and barked orders to get the vessel back on course. The stealth field that had hidden the Ko'Vash'Da drew all of it's power from the ship's defensive systems not least of which was the prow shielding. The detonation of the nova warheads so close to the unprotected Ko'Vash'Da had caused micro-fractures in the hull and secondary explosions from fragile systems had sent sparks and fire into the bridge and across the decks. Damage control teams and emergency kor'vesa already had things under control, but the shock to the crew left the vessel drifting for several heart beats while they recovered their senses.

"I want the stealth field back online! Pull us out of the attack vector and get us some distance!"

Kor'Ui shouted at each other as the sleek vessel angled away from the Jotunheim and pulled away at increasing speed. Even as enemy gun batteries might have locked on the covert vessel it shimmered and slipped back into the darkness of space, vanishing from sensors and visual identification.

Lets hope that was worth it...

"Aun Ryumyo, our rearguard has been attacked, there were several casualties. Aun Ela'ri is critical wounded."
"Rearguard?"
"Yes, Aun, apparently the commanding Shas in the hangar commanded a second convoy up here."
"That was foolish. What is about the hangar?"
"It was blown up, there are no survivors, as the hangar had a massive hull breach - perhaps we will find some survivors in battlesuits who had been sucked out."
"See for some rescue crafts."

The initial teleport to Jotunheim had left The InterrogaTier disoriented, however he had had more than time enough to gather himself. Taleghan had left for Hangar 31 with all of the remaining Astartes, and Dask had returned to the xenos Orbital, leaving him most senior (and conscious) on the Command Deck.

Noting the approach of the Imperial ship, he initially felt a burst of glee at the promise of reinforcements. However, as the name 'Vanaheimr' came into view, glee was replaced by sickness.

"That heretic Lyeotius will not leave this battle-field alive," he thought to himself, almost forgetting the xenos who had stripped him of beauty and sanity. Now there was a promise of red blood.

Special Insertion Threat Containment Team Storytale was on the move. They had delivered the severed limb their Shas'Vre had recovered, and had set out in search of their objective - any dangerous or important Gue'la technology. Exiting a maintenance conduit, the team emerged to a position that overlooked a strange and terrible discovery. Below them was a band of Gue'la minions, alongside an operative Sorrowhand had presumed dead. He appeared wounded though, so they had been at least partially effective. The true horror though, was what they were watching over, row upon row of large, grotesque, baroque tanks containing Tau and auxiliary specimens. Some seemed to be alive, albeit unconscious, while others were in... pieces..

The team wasted no time. Setting up a firing position, they rained down a torrent of plasma pulse bursts and hypersonic projectiles. They did not have the anti-shielding screen breaker rounds entrusted to Sorrowhand, so any shots that hit the operative were warded off harmlessly, but he was not their main target.

The acolytes, henchmen and stormtroopers around the Gue'la operative were cut down without mercy, but the true damage was to their prize - 4/5 of the specimen tanks were shattered by the team's fire. In the confusion, those subjects that were still alive managed to escape, fleeing into the far reaches of the orbital, and Storytale did likewise.

Assassin Interrogator Dask spat blood onto the scarred and burned floor panel. He hadn't expected any organized fireteams unassigned to the Aun's protection. He looked down at the data core in his hand and weighed his options.
The air had grown stiller than usual, so they'd likely sealed off every access point to this section. Which meant escape without the Magos' aid was impossible. Their tactics had grown more and more cautious as their cowardice took hold. He looked to his left and limped into the chamber. It was a standard data access point with multiple consoles, most likely used for general access to the Orbital's information.

He couldn't get the data to Taleghan, so secondary protocol would have to be enacted. He stopped at the nearest console and inserted the core. He watched as the automated programming began accessing the information, cross referencing it with the Orbital's database.

Deep below, in the R&D lab, the core he'd received from Interrogator Elmo and planted earlier, was activated as the flagged information was being checked by the system. The Magos' masterpiece of programming was immediately activated by the data flag. The data purge virus spread quickly, wiping any data relevant to the stolen core from the system. And since they'd rounded up and executed every Fio related to the project under the guise of a Witch hunt, there was now no trace of it in any Tau databanks and would be lost to them forever.

"Two can play at that game Xeno heretic. Besides, that information was never yours to begin with," Dask said to the xeno scum, no doubt standing outside of the room, working up the courage to enter.
"Now then, I promised that you'd burn didn't I?" he called out with a smile. He lept into the open corridor, pulse rounds zipping past as they tried to match his speed, but his surprise actions bought him all the time he needed. Once in the corridor he could see a battlesuit blocking either end of the passageway, and the rest filled with grunt troops.

"Burn in the holy fires of the Inquisition, Xeno Scum!" he screamed as he pulled the detonation cords from the brace of demolition charges. Spinning about, he hurled them over the heads of xenos to land at the feet of each battlesuit. The corridor was melted away in an instant, leaving nothing but a massive sphere of melted metal in the heart of the Orbital.

A bright light and shining portal appeared in the space not far off from the space station, at least comparatively. However, before the Imperials onboard their battlecruiser had finished their initial cheers of reinforcements, a dread shape began to push it's way through, agonizingly slowly. A giant sphere, larger than any Imperial ship meant for battle, and as large as many freighters, even, was what began to reveal itself as it creeped through the portal. As it continued to force it's way through, out of the Warp and once more into real space, a crackling voice, somehow simultaneously guttural and squawking, sounded over the remaining communications arrays within the Orbital.

*tchk* "This is High Shaper Raal'Up Gek, on the Warsphere Ku'kara Bae Et, responding to the distress call given by this station. Boarding shuttles will be en route to provide assistance presently; estimated time to arrival is twenty-three rai'kor. Try to hold on for that long, you bastards." *tchk*

Within minutes, tiny silhouettes could be seen outlined against the unnatural brightness of the Warp portal, and yet the craft was barely halfway through. It was exceedingly obvious by this point to any present that the Kroot had made some major modifications non-typical for their kind to this particular Warsphere. It was almost completely round, rather than indented in a ring like most, though it seemed to be hollow within that area. Additionally, the design had many obvious Tau influences not typically found on Warspheres of any sort. Railguns, Ion Cannons, and hangar bays were like windows upon the Ku'kara's surface, so numerous were they. What the Imperials didn't know was that there were not simply Kroot on the ship, and the Kroot there were not as tech-phobic as many of their kind; personalized fighters, strangely effective despite their ragtag appearance, began to flood out of the hangars, along with Barracudas and Mantas alike. Some began to head towards the station with their Kroot counterparts, but a great deal made a beeline for the Imperial vessels, falling into formations as they drew closer. Though the Warsphere was incredibly slow, even for it's massive size, and too far away from the main battle for it's weapon batteries to come into play very soon, it had scores upon scores of fighter craft, bomber craft, and Tau Cadres within it, and the boarding shuttles to put them to use, though this was a tactic atypical for the Tau.

Meanwhile, the High Shaper waited for the vessel to enter realspace fully, before he would allow himself to join the fighting personally. It had been such a very long time since he had been able to taste gue'la flesh...

Shas'la CmdrCASh floated shakily within the confines of the Devilfish, his senses still reeling from the tragedy that he had witnessed.

One moment, calm and order. The next, near panic as the explosions triggered and the hanger turned into a blazing inferno.

Then, the hull breach.

He had barely saved himself by diving into the open troop compartment of the same pathfinder Devilfish he had found earlier and sealing the door before the whole vehicle and every other loose piece of cargo, battlesuit and Tau had been horrifically swept out through the ragged hole into cold space.

But that still meant that he was stuck there drifting in zero gravity. While not explicitly designed for hard vacuum, the compartment would maintain integrity for while (Thank the Aun for Fio over-engineering!), but the engine pods required an atmosphere to operate.

Hopefully that would be rescue before the air ran out.

Still nestled inside their mainframe terminal, deep within the orbital, Special Insertion Threat Containment Team Emptyspiral were pleased. Sav'ka smiled to himself as his plan came to fruition. All the time the other data core had been inserted, he had covertly been extracting and copying it's files from the main Tau database on the orbital. As the computer virus spread, he had removed the external data-drive, with a copy of the contents of the data-core on it, at the last possible instance. The teams' Shas'vre praised him for his fast thinking when the message had gone out about the data core's significance.

Switching to the team's portable transmitter, Sav'ka began to upload the information, an entire complete copy of what was on the station's computers before the purge, into K-42's main data-bank, where it would be safe for distribution, on a secret encrypted channel known only to them and the fleet.

Another explosion let the command deck quake. Aun Ryumyo looked unsettled as a screen suddenly played a message, Aun Ela'ri swas saying:
"Aun'El, I have commanded another fraud mission, as I expected more threats to your person and the data you recovered. When you see this message, I am dead. I took another datacore and placed some misleading data on it, hopefully the Gue'la take the bait. Tau'va."
A single tear shimmered in the eyes of Aun Ryumyo, as he padded is deadmans switch, linked to the real datacore hidden inside the com console.
"Farewell, my friend", he sight, "Farewell. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten."
