A long line of Tau made their way up the Concourse towards the hangar bay. First came the Broadsides, followed by Fire Warrior and Pathfinder La'rua guiding huddled Por, Fio, Kor and alien dignitaries. The Shas looked exhausted, but their professionalism showed through, their movements still unfailingly precise and measured, an eye still on every angle to ensure the safety of the non-combatants.
Last of all came the Crisis teams and Riptide of the cadre, and at the very end of the line came Shas'O K'tano, his armour pitted and scored from heavy fighting. A Kor caste pilot came to greet him, his awe at the sight of the battle scarred Shas obvious to see. Respect and admiration filled his eyes.
"Shas'O, how may we assist?" he said as he dipped a small bow.
The Commander returned the gesture, an awkward one in a suit of XV8-05 armour.
"Get the civilians evacuated out to the fleet as best you can, I want them out of harm's way as soon as is possible..."
The pilot nodded in agreement, "Yes of course Shas'O, but yourself and your cadre..."
"We will of course need to seconder one Manta so we can link up with those elements of the fleet that are in contact with the Gue'la vessel. If there is to be some sort of reckoning my men and I will wish to be present."
"Of course Shas'O."
"Thank you for your assistance Kor'vre," the Commander said.
The pilot was taken aback. He had heard of the humble and courteous demeanour of Commander Longsword, but to be thanked by a senior member of the Fire caste...
His admiration for the Shas could not have been higher than at that point; battered and wearied, yet still ready to go forth in defence of the Greater Good, refusing to retreat whilst there were foes unfought.

Shas'O K'tano, this is K-42. Good to have you back with us, non-combatant transports are on our sensors and cleared for landing. It looks like we've broken the back of the Gue'la invasion, their operative activity has died down and their line forces are either in full retreat or standing down, if they aren't already dead or decended into infighting. A Gue'la agent is boarding the battlecruiser to ascertain the fate of the Gue'la assault force's leadership, once he has done so he will be departing the system.

It looks like this might finally be at an end soon. Tau'va.

Sei'gi hopped out of the XV8-06 cockpit and tore off his helmet. His bald head featured large, dark scars that ran down the right side of his forehead, just stopping short of his red eyes.

"Fio?" Sei'gi called out to one of the nearby crew. He jogged over to a group of fio, his pulse pistol and bonding sword jostling and clacking as he did. Shas were naturally taller than the fio, but Sei'gi was taller than most shas, rivaling many gue'la in height. This contrast really emphasized the differences of the castes, as Sei'gi towered over the fio before him. "Fio'ui, refit that XV8-06. Notify me once it is finished: Kau'ui-2937, Shas'el'Tash'var'Sei'gi."

"Of course, shas'el," the short fio said, logging the contact information on his wrist mount as Sei'gi jogged away.

Sei'gi left his team and made his way to the bridge to find out what was going on, briefing his them over his comms as he received information. The smaller gue'la vessel, Fana'hai'm'r, was a common enemy against the larger, the Y'ot'tun'hai'm. Gue'la were always too eager to kill their own kind. Nonetheless, Sei'gi appreciated having the smaller gue'la ship as an ally, especially given the events over the last rotaa.

In naval engagements, the shas were mostly helpless. Space and sky were the domain of the kor. Sei'gi never felt comfortable with that. The shas were the warriors of the Empire. It's fangs. Even though the kor were perfectly capable of fighting in this environment, he still felt guilty for failing his sense of duty. Along with Ma'koto and Myr'ret, he ended up running around the hangar in his battlesuit. They were helping fio and kor crews with heavy labor, and escorting survivors off of transports. He would still help in some way, even if he could not fight.

The battle seemed to die down shortly after the Fana'hai'm'r combined fire with the tau K-42 fleet. He felt uneasy about the whole situation. The gue'la ships were fighting one another for some unknown reason, the larger picture remained obscure. It seemed as though the tau had just been caught in the crossfire between the two of them.

EDIT: Changed my story a bit to better tie into the ending.

It's been a pleasure serving with the community once again to defend our humble space station. Thanks to all the participants, and the admin team for providing our antagonists.

(Well, since it's starting to look like no-one else will wrap this up)

Kor'O'T'au Kais'Y'eldi'aloh watched from the bridge of his flagship as, after what seemed to him like far too long, the human light cruiser finally departed the system, with the ruined battlecruiser in tow, it's crew purged and the commander of the light cruiser seemingly satisfied. As he watched the ships depart, Kais had an odd feeling that he and the so-called Lyeotius would meet again some day. Between the Third Sphere Expansion and the Imperial assault into Tau space, it would likely be in a fleet action. That would be an interesting day...

With the last of the Gue'la dispatched or in custody, Mantas once again began shuttling personnel back to the orbital, in an uncanny repeat of events the previous Tau'cyr. Once more, all of the survivors had their own stories to tell, whether of daring and courageous feats or tragic loss, and none would ever forget what had trasnpired....

With the orbital secured, the bulk of K-42 departed back to the front lines in the Coreward March. There was, after all, still a Gue'la invasion to halt. A single Gal'leath lingered on however, to act as a makeshift docking facility to better facilitate repairs to the once-more battered orbital.

And the Kor'O wondered if perhaps this sort of thing might repeat itself every Tau'cyr now, forevermore..

And so ends another ATT annual April Fools. Thank you everyone for your participation and overall, a sense of fun. The admin team enjoyed being ridiculous and running amok, our one chance a year.

You would be surprised to learn, we had no set plan for the event other than an Inquisitorial takeover, with a couple of loose threads. The community itself told this story; all artwork and events after the initial beginning were generated on the fly; even the finale image was put together only a short while ago; as we did not know whom would be left standing amongst the Inquisition.

Again, thank you all - it was a fun, internationally patronised event. For our readers, we hope you enjoyed ATT being creative and out of control.
