Re: An Expanded Tau Lexicon and Tau'sia: Toward a Tau Language

'Faan' as it appears in several home grown lexicons seems to be the term for 'people' in the same manner as we might use 'humanity' or 'mankind'. But that's speculative.

Kor'faan would be 'people of the air' or perhaps a formal term for 'members of the air cast'.

Sio't: Are a type of meditation as I've read it. I'd go with 'mantra' personally.

Tak: Seems to be 'material'. In my own fluff I've used it as an all-term for the substance the Tau use to build, well, everything. They have control over nanostructures, it might make sense that they can manipulate core materials and 'program' them to what they need (armor, buildings, decking).

Thanks:

Any idea how 'tak' became 'high explosive'?

Firewarrior: kles'tak explosives are placed inside a smaller, handheld drone that finds and blows apart a bunch of space marines.

Cool idea... Don't know why it never got into the rules. They'd be 'smart' demolition packs.

LINK TO LEXICON DELETED - SEE POST AT TOP OF THREAD

Sorry just noticed that the PDF reader on DocDroids does not render the file with all of it's formatting? Don't know what's up with DocDroid (they just had an upgrade?) If you want to see the Lexicon with the proper formatting you'll have to download it; and then view in a good pdf viewer. I will be contacting DocDroid to see this rectified.

Sorry I had to edit the Lexicon for numerous formatting errors, misspellings, weird typos, and even some alphabetizing mistakes! ERRG! Please everyone let me know when you find mistakes so I can fix them and repost. Sorry for all you who already downloaded the 'broken' lexicon! TauMan out.

Note the link to the lexicon was deleted as there is only one link posted - TauMan.

Here it is the last for the year - The Expanded Tau Lexicon 2015: 1.12! (Please See Post at Top of Thread)

Well here we are at the end of the year and I haven't updated the lexicon for a while. This will be the last for 2015, as in Jan/Feb 2016, the lexicon will get a whole revamp of layout and design. We will be adding the completed tau alphabet (thank you Kael'yn) and guess what graphics!

Now just let everyone know I have recently purchased ebook version of Firewarrior by Simon Spurrier, Published in 2005 by Black Library, Games Workshop Ltd. © Games Workshop Limited, 2005, 2011.

Boy did we have a lot wrong!

Kles’tak explosives: Type of explosive in 'auto-deploy' mines/drones? Not the mine/drone itself.
Sio’t: A book/codex of sutra/psalm like verses used in meditation. Get that? A whole book of meditations! There are also the D’havre and Yie’rla’rettan books of meditations.
Snae’ta: Means...tahh...'a frakking jerk'(?) Does not mean compassion or mercy! :-?
Ui’t cub: Just a tau hound or dog. There's nothing about any tau 'bear-dog'.

Other stuff:
'Bloodfire!' Means something like 'Bloody hell' or 'Bloody damn!' Not an insult thrown at anyone.

It's looking like what many of us think is the fact is just opinion, mis-remebered, or jumbled up stuff in our heads. Having said that, I do appreciate all the effort of fans on this site and other websites have done over the years. It just seems what we 'think' are tau words and phrases, have been more often wrong. Whew...! :?

Hi, TauMan. Just read through this thread, and I admire the dedication to the meta, it brings the rest alive.

So, I would like to volunteer in any way I can. I don't have any extra resource (publications, etc) but let me know if there's anything that I can do? I do like organising data ... if that helps.

Additionally, I would be more than happy to host any and all documents for you for free; maybe get a nice domain name too, taulexicon.com is available for example :-)

Welcome aboard! Intending to do a total re-make of the lexicon next year any way. Looking to create separate subject sections like: military terminology, historical, food and culture etc.

Xhmm a website does sound like the next logical step. And taulexicon is available you say? Need to snap that up fast! :nice:

Been very busy recently, so nothing interesting to report, but one quick and easy admin suggestion: that the first post be edited and have the latest edition there, and then the archived versions below.

Dear Tau'fann:
Happy New Year - and yes I wasn't going to post again in 2015, but there were just to many new canonical words (and new-new words as well ) added in the last month that I couldn't wait until February to share them. Lots more words from Firewarrior by Simon Spurrier, Shadowsun by Braden Campbell.

Here is the link: http://docdro.id/viTseYz

Tau Number Words (Finally, right?)
0. Tsaa
1. Neg
2. Xor
3. Gur
4. Dor
5. Tav
6. Zurg
7. Dolu
10. Niam*

*Remember it's an eight based numerical system

Have a Happy T'pre'ta! :D (Have a 'Safe and Sane' holiday. So don't going blowing yourselves up with those firecrackers! :dead: )

The TauMan Abides

;) And for those who need a little extra, here is special phrase in tau'sia for you: "M'lthe'gue'la P'eurk'tugrii'ea" - The Gue'la don't know ___! (Look it up)

The Expanded Tau Lexicon 2016 version 1.0 Has Been Published!

Note on the Expanded Tau Lexicon 2016 ver. 1.0 – the Most Canonical Tau Lexicon!
As of the date of publication of the 2016 Expanded Tau Lexicon, we can say that this is the most comprehensive and concise Tau lexicon available in the English language. Yes, there are other lexicons out there, but most are static and not updated. Often the definitions given are incorrect or incomplete. The Expanded Tau Lexicon is meant to be a living document and is updated with new canonical words and definitions; as well as corrections on a regular basis. Not something that occurs with any other lexicons. Furthermore many of these terms were laid out and defined in discussion threads on A.T.T., and we are very thankful for the work of all of those who contributed to so far to this lexicon.

Where is the link to the Expanded Tau Lexicon 2016 verison 1.0?
From here on out the link will always be at the top of the thread. As the lexicon is updated, an announcement will be posted here on the discussion thread. I apologize for waiting so many months to get the next update published, but searching for work and writing for the Into Silence series has taken up my time.

PS No more whining about 'how canonical or not' the Expanded Tau Lexicon is. It's the most canonical Tau lexicon out there period. :( TM

I just finished reading some old White Dwarves and realized something new about Tau referencing themselves as a race:

Yes, 'Tau' but also 'Tau'O/Tau'La'- they reference their entirety of the expectations for their rank.

I thought that was cool and since i'm using this resource so often, Tauman, hopefully this addition helps.

Having Trouble finding the letter Q equivalent! According to most sources I've found, there IS no letter corresponding to 'Q' in the Tau alphabet, yet in the Living Tau Lexicon (Which I adore) there are several words that start with Q or list it as a letter in a word!
Say what?!

The Q letter is not the only one. From memory, (C,K,Q),(F,S) And others have the same tau glyphs.
I think that the imperial transcription (by tau or imperial translator) uses the different Gothic letters based either on a complex system of rule, artistic license, or indifferently one for another.
This is not an isolated example.
Chinese language (mandarin) uses two transcription systems in French ( for example, the old, from occidentals "Pekin" and the new from chinese system "Beijing").

Japanese also has several different accepted transcriptions into English. Of course this is complicated by the Japanese having 3 different writing systems.
