+++Commanders Log Entry: Day Two, Invasion of the A.T.T. Orbital - Evening+++

The bulk of the cadre is with now under Kakapo's command and they expect an attack at any time. My own Stealth and Crisis suit teams and our one lone Broadside team are somewhere in the Orbital. I am holding my present position to allow them to rally here. The Cyber Security Team I released to hunt down and destroy the rogue XV-09, but they only ended up damaging the thing! And causing a 'hull breach' by punching a hole in the Orbital in the process! So much for going bounty hunting! As of this hour they were still tracking the thing, but now they went black. Bob and his team are on total communication lock down. But then again it's not like they ever followed by orders anyway!

My own Stealth team is asleep, and I am taking the first watch. They were banged up in the last encounter with Imohtek. We've tracked him, hounded him and thought we were draining his power; but then again maybe not? Kakapo says Blueshock is hunting him too? But I thought we would have crossed paths with Blueshock by now?

Don't know his status, but I've got an XV-30 Stealth waiting for him if he ever contacts me.

Teal and Kakapo have a plan and whatever it is I hope it works, because things cannot keep on going! We either win this fight or surrender to our fate. The situation cannot continue for much longer...we are now at a cross roads. Mostly I fear Imohtek won't be so easily tricked, and whatever kauyon plan they have, he'll just slip out of it anyway. If we could just somehow nail his damn metal foot to the deck? Then maybe we'd have a chance! Well maybe just a chance?

There is rumour that the Dawn Blade has made an appearance in this fight? How could this be if Shas'O'Shova hasn't shown up to the Orbital? Well then again neither has Shas'O'Shas'erra! Better for things all around I guess, I wouldn't want a marital argument to spoil our fun with Imohtek!

Sobbing, he holds a
Once loyal companion, now
Reduced to wreckage

For the Greater Good
He had to slay his vesa
When it turned on him

Though lacking a soul
The machine, ever loyal
Had been a dear friend

We are losing ground
Staring into the abyss
Subvert the system

Gutting the vesa
Crosswiring with fever
One with the machine

Invaders must die
We are... prodigal Tau
Invaders must die

Though risking his death
He saves the vesa within
Loyal to the end

Burn bright and burn blue
Green fire freezes the truth
Make it count, comrades

There! Finally, so many hurdles and nuisances. So very few minions left.. no matter. The prize is only a few steps away. Imohtek stepped forward, his glaive lighting the way ahead. All about his feet the few hundred remaining scarabs press forward.

Right into a fusilade of tau weaponry..

Well well.. this was a clever path to take. The Tinkerer eyed over the gravity bubbles projected by the primitive generators. Gliding down he followed the trio of creatures as they struggled along. One of them possessed two inert orbs in a skin sack on it's back. Curious, the Tinkerer drifted closer, following the shadows out of sight.

Surging forward, a living metal carpet, the scarabs rushed the tau defences. They cared not for themselves, only that their ever lasting lord Imohtek touched the fusion heart of this structure. A hundred died, tripping mines, EMP grenades, pulse weapons and more. But they poured ever forward about the strides of Imohtek, the necrontyr ignoring energies spattering against it's carapace.

Stumbling toward the service hatch, Tael turned to assist the shas'la behind him. In horror he saw the tau ensnared from behind by a giant metal spider. It was the Reclaimer, again? No, this one was very different.. it had finer actuators and grips. Mandiables of sensory nature. Regardless it took the shas'la, throwing him across the chamber to get at Tael.

The fio fell backward, pulse fire ripping overhead as his other ward fired immediately.
"This is my fight, go - take these to Kakapo or whomever is close enough to the reactor - use it only when Imohtek is draining the core!"
The shas'la nodded, snapping off another burst, rifle at the hip as she hoisted the backpack over her shoulder.

The Tinkerer, peeked back around the hatchway entrance, furtively checking for weapons fire. It only saw the lone tau before it.

Drifting into full view of Tael it twitched and sampled the surroundings. Always closing on the tau. Tael waited patiently, nursing the object at his back in one hand; trying not to panic as the thing drifted closer.

The tau Commander sat between his two sleeping team mates, watching the flickering light of the shop display hololith spray the darkened corridor with advertisements for cleaning solutions or the latest domestic drone. It only dawned on TauMan that they were on a commercial deck and the abandoned shops and service bays were still somehow online, at least the annoying adverts were.

“And the damn Necrons couldn't have at least shut down those eye sores?” he thought to himself.

From down the corridor he thought he saw some movement, a slow moving figure like an old tau man was approaching the Commander's position. The corridor would have easily been pitch dark to a gue'la's eyes, but to the tau Commander there was plenty of light to see by. Unsure if indeed there was some one there in the dim light, the Commander held his pulse pistol at the ready and waited.

“Hallo, I am announcing my presence! Hallo, please do not shoot...”

“Move into the light and identify yourself! NOW!” said the Commander levelling his pistol at the intruder.

“My son, I do think you know who I am?” said the elderly male voice as the figure hobbled into the light of the hololith.

“T'ahh...” gasped the Commander and lowered his weapon slightly. “Aun'Shi? Can that be you, your immanence?”

“Well, I believe it is me? I don't think I have any metal parts?” laughed the Tau Ethereal as he stood leaning on his honour blade.

“By-the-Eternal-Blue-Sky! I-I-I...” said the Commander holstering his pistol and running to the side of the old tau Ethereal. “Sorry, how did you...wait I caught a communiqué that you'd had been found? How did you get lost? Are you aright...” the Commander took a knee and bowed to the Ethereal, something he had never ever done in his life.

“Stand up young man, I can't see that well any more and you're too far away from my old eyes!”

“Sorry, let me help you to our 'encampment'. It's just an alcove in the wall of the corridor...”

“It'll be fine...excuse me are you from Vior'la?”

“The Enclaves, sorry about the brogue?”

“AH-HA! Someone told me that the firewarriors of the Vi'Qqan – Red Chieftain were here! You know young man I was O'Shova's tutor in the Tau'Va? Use to yank his top knot quite a bit when he was young!” smiled the old tau. “Aye, and I speek a wee bit 'o the brogue myself. As ye most knae I'm Vior'lan!

“No sir problem sir! T'oh pardon my manners I'm...”

“I know O'T'au'Man, such an odd name for one like yourself, xhmm?”

The Commander helped the old Ethereal to a spot between the two other sleeping firewarriors. He cracked open a heating unit and put a pot of red tisan on to boil. The Commander notice the old Ethereal never let go of his honour blade, as it were his child. “I'm making tisan, but are you hungry sir?”

“Not hungry, but I will take the tisan? Red or White?”

“Red tisan sir?”

“Xhmm...” the old tau sat was quiet. The Commander didn't trouble him with anymore questions. Aun'Shi looked just like all the iconography the Commander had seen of him growing up. The old Ethereal seemed tired and about to fall asleep, when the Commander handed him his vi'tisan. “Not too hot your immanence ?” he asked.

“No, no...it's fine!”

They sat a while drinking their tisan when Aun'Shi asked, “Tell me about your ta'lissera blade?”

“T'eh? It's a mont'ta'lissera – a bonding war knife, it's what we carry in the Enclaves. A longer and heavier combat knife that's also a bonding knife. Our blades are never just ceremonial...they spill blood one way or another!” The Commander found himself more enthusiastic than he should be, like a young firewarrior just out of the academy. He wondered why?

“Xhmm, what else is different about your knife?” asked the Ethereal pointing at the pommel.

“T'oh, that's the Tos't'shas – Anvil of the Sun, the emblem of the Enclaves. But you must know that already? You've been to the Enclaves haven't you?”

“Yes, but what else is different from any other ta'lissera'nan? From those of the Empire?” asked Aun'Shi leaning in and smiling, his eyes twinkling.

“T'ahh, well they say that there is...” The Commander picked up his blade and held it upright on his knee with one hand and pointed with the other. “That there is a sliver of the Dawn Blade embedded in the tang of the pommel,” said the Commander lowering his voice to a whisper.

“T'ah I see...”

Well not a sliver, more like a piece of foil as wide as my thumb, but only a few microns thick. It's said the Dawn Blade gives up hundreds of pieces of itself every tau'cyr. But is always the same dimensions, it never gets smaller...

“How do you know the Dawn Blade is there firewarrior?”

“Well I don't know...”

“WHAT?!” exclaimed Aun'Shi.

“I do know, but not in my head…” he said pointing at his head, “...but in here.” The Commander pointed at his chest.

Now the Commander looked at his blade and laying it across his knees said, “I know it also when I place my hand on the blade, I think even every Shas'La squad leader to Shas'O knows this! I mean I can feel it...” He put his hand on the hilt, but stopped in mid sentence. The Commander froze in place staring down at the blade in his lap. For in that instant that his hand touched the pommel, the Commander became aware of something ancient and powerful sitting across from him. Something that made every cell in his body afraid. So terrified was he, that he could not look up to see what it was. All he knew was that it sublime and terrible, and that it was very, very old. “Sir, you are not who you say you are!” he whispered.

Drawing the mont'ta'lissera'nan in a flash the Commander leapt at the thing across from him, but it was gone. He found himself with the drawn weapon pointing at immense tree as big around as the centre of an Orca lander. And below his hooves was a wide rough hewn stone platform, half covered in deep green vines and surrounded by undergrowth. There were trees all about, and each one was a tall and wide as the one in front of him. Above vines carrying blue, yellow and red flowers, that wound they way up the trees as far as the eye could see. Flying creatures of metallic green and blue, radiant orange and golden red flew in and around the trees. Then dropping his weapon the Commander saw the creature standing before him.

She was taller but not by much, and her reptilian skin was of the purest turquoise colour that he had ever seen, like the skies of ancient T'au! She had stripes of various colour painted on her scales: red, blue, green, yellow and white. And large copper triangles dangled from piercing of the wide head crest. Cooper also adorned her arms in multiple rings, and copper hung from a leather chain around her neck. She looked at him with wide and beautiful yellow eyes.

He felt an overwhelming sense of impossible and totally unconditional love.

“Yiyi – Granny?” he asked in a the voice of a little tau boy.

“Yiyi?! That's what little Temu'jin calls me!” She clapped her clawed hands together, but somehow the words didn't come from any language she spoke; but none the less he heard them anyway. “You know, You know, You know who that Temu'jin is don't you? He's the leader O'Shova. He use be sit like in my lap lots of time! And he be all questions, all of the time!”

The commander was crying now but he didn't know why.

“Ahh, little hatchling he get excited to see his Grandma!” The turquoise yiyi now grabbed him up in her arms and hugged him fiercely. Letting go she leaned over to talk to the Commander, seemed to be a very small tau boy at the moment. “Hey little Temur – Iron, you want to pin that metal man to the ground?”

“Yeah,” he answered in his little boy voice.

“Well that blade can do it!”

“Really!”

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

“Sir? Sir, who are you talking to?” asked Lhas'kirsaa.

The commander found himself staring into the face of his ta'lissera sister and wondering why he was holding his blade down at his side. “I don't know...I think I'm asleep on my hooves?”

“I got up for my watch and you were standing there talking?”

“Don't know Shas'Vre...I think I'll turn in now. I'm tired and I need to sleep. Good-night,” he said handing her the blade. “Keep that close by, you may need it!” and with that he sat down, lay back and went to sleep.

Shas'El Or'sha'is held his breath
Can you hear that?
...Thud, Thud, Thud...
That is the sound of death lads. Is everyone ready?
All squads checked in sir, we are ready for you're command.
Alright Boars prepare yourselves, this is a Riptide we're facing here.
...THUD, THUD, THUD...
On my command... FIRE!

The whole cadre opened fire simultaneously, the corridor filling with light blue orbs of pure pulse energy. And then the grenades started detonating, one by on bursting out huge amounts of energy.
The gigantic, hulking Xor'veasa took the fire at first, hardly phased by blue energy bouncing off of its thick armour. That's when the fusion and plasma started, scoring deep chunks from the massive walker but it wasn't necessarily the hits themselves that turned the Riptide into a hunk of mangled metal, it was the heat. The massive weight of energy striking the iridium armour essentially turning the Battlesuit into one big ole oven melting it from the inside out.

Cease fire! Cease fire!
I think we've done it sir, that doesn't look like it will be going vary far on its own now. Alright great work lads but the battle is far from over yet. Ammo and casualty check, we need to get going, we're needed at the main reactor

I pull myself to my feet, and continue on to keep my enemy from reaching his destination. I enter the last corridor to the reactor core and overhear the voices of Tauman and Shas'len'ra off in the distance. I know the others have caught back up.

I remove a transmitter from a dead Shas corpse and link it to my battlesuit pilot thermal suit. "Not exactly what I wanted, but he wouldn't need it", I thought.

"....Pshttt...Tauman, Shas'len'ra. Copy. Imotekh is just in front of me, almost to the core. We have to stop him!"

As the brother to the most infamous legend the Tau had ever known I would not give in to doubt. We will stop him at all costs!

Argh. Last thing I remember was jumping in front of a strike aimed at one of my new battle brothers sent by Kakapo to aid me and then blackness. Now I'm in some abandoned hallway near what appears to be the dumpling shop, kind of my allies to drop me off here and not allow me to be dead weight.

"Can anyone hear me on this channel? I'm ready to assist however I can"

The Tinkerer

Re: A miniature vesa taps your hoof... [MAIN THREAD]

Further down the corridor, behind the lone tau before him, the Tinkerer could hear weapons fire and explosions. It jinxed slightly, as if to look over and beyond the lone creature.

Before the tau shrugged, as if deciding it was of no concern now.

Intrigued, the Tinkerer hovered closer, sharp talons fanning out to sample this odd little creature.

It was then the flesh thing casually tossed an orb at the Tinkerer. On reflex it caught the orb, caressing it with microscopic sensors and samplers. The Tinkerer recoiled too late, the tau dove to one side of the corridor.

In that instant the vortex orb detonated, a smaller version of the two nestled inside the backpack being rushed by a lone shas'la to the core room.

The small device exploded the construct in the same instant, snapping it out of exsistence. The shockwave slammed Tael to the ruined floor, then sucked the air out of the small corridor just as abruptly. There was as much a sonic boom as there was a rushing silence.

"So that's the test done..." he said, then passed out.

I come to and realize that something is definitely wrong with me now. After nearly being pulled out into space, my grabbing of the "dwarf" has further injured my already damaged arm. It is swollen and I can barely feel my hand. When the blast doors come down I do not land well and my leg twists beyond its limits. I must have passed out from shock for the corridor is empty, I have probably been left for dead. Some how a discarded rail rifle is nearby, and I crawl, every length a fresh hell as I make my way to the weapon. I breathe heavy when I reach it and check its ammo. I am close to the core so I do not have far to go. Still I cannot make it. Just reaching the abandoned weapon and propping myself up robs me of most of my energy. I barely register the comm chatter but I know something is coming. I see its outline as its strides into view. My eyes widen as I discover that it is the necron lord that I encountered earlier. Shock sharpens me, makes me alert enough for one more act, one more pull of the trigger. I slow my breathing and try to steady the gun, and it takes note of me. I just smile as I fire and pass out.

Scarab Cutters

Re: A miniature vesa taps your hoof... [MAIN THREAD]

The cutters were in amongst the gun line, biting on limb and weapons. The tau fought them, smashing carapace, EMP grenades went off searing flesh and ending digital life. It was desperate fighting. All the while Imohtek stepped forward without concern, a single rail round caused him to stagger, the furrow of hyper velocity metal scarred his chest. It was a lucky blow, and.. it took time to regenerate.

The scarabs were dying in droves, yet they served their lord in death, tying up the Tau wonderfully as he closed on the reactor room..

"Shaper, we must go!"

Gek shook off the hand on his shoulder and fired again, a Necron Warrior shrugging off the pulse round.

"Kkreh, we can hold! They will kkome to aid us! I am sure of it!"

Screaming could be heard as the first Flayed Ones on the station made their ghastly appearance, carving into the Hound Packs that had reacted almost instantly to them.

"Wait...

"Is that...

"Meat?"

And non-Tau, at that...finally. Something to eat that was not accompanied by mourning.

"Shaper, forget the meat! It is rancid anyway, we must makke our way to the main kkore instead! The generator isn't drawing enough of them!"

"...Fine. Follow me, kkin! Rip what you might from their kkarvings, and go!"

The Kroot's original tactics might not have worked, but it seemed as though the Necrons were unconcerned with that generator anyway.

And if they struck from behind at the Necron Lord...well, he would not be expecting that, now would he?

And the Kroot could be very good shots...

Hearing nothing on the radio Stygian moves through the empty and often wrecked hallways finding no evidence anyone else is still around, no one that is except corpses of Tau and Necrontyr everywhere, evidence of the brutal fighting that took place within the orbital. After an hour of wandering the station and coming to the realization that his communicator is yet again broken Stygian hears an explosion. Heading towards the sound he goes through a doorway into a room that curves around with a tubular construct stretching out into the distance. Along its length Stygian see's a prone body near scrap littered on the "floor". Running across what must be the source of gravity on the orbital Stygian discovers the body of Fio'O Tael. Shocked at this discovery Stygian checks his body for signs of life and is relieved to feel a pulse. With a grunt and a slight stagger due to his wounded leg Stygian hefts Tael onto his shoulders and carries him back out the way he came into the room. He finds an easily defendable room connected to the hallway he had entered and carefully set Tael down and set about treating Tael's wounds as well as he could with a field medkit.

Not on my watch!

With Tau'cyr of practice, Kakapo levelled his rail-rifle at the Necron lord reaching out and fired a salvo, the hypervelocity sabbots hitting it squarely in the chest and sending it slamming into the ground. Before it could get up Kakapo had reloaded and fired another burst, and then another...

Scarabs rushed to protect their lord, but were cut down by pulse fire and submunition charges as Kakapo cadre moved to engage.
