Tau Attracting Chaos in Codex: Chaos Daemons

From the new Codex: Chaos Daemons. Here's a pretty good example of the fact that Tau can properly channel/attract Chaos incursions to their worlds. Individual Tau don't seem to have been possessed, but rather their actions called the daemon Rotigus and damned the world.

Humming merrily - for he enjoys his work - Rotigus lavishes his attentions upon those that beseech him...

When their hydro-tech broke, the T'au Earth caste farmers of Dh'artan were so desperate for rain that they ignored protocol and gave in to the superstitions of the primitive tribes from whom they had usurped the planet. When the downpour first came it was welcome, but soon enough the entire planet became a foetid swamp rife with plague.

All in all this doesn't seem very "Tau" but I guess it's canon now. Thoughts?

The water caste would call this a por'sral (propaganda campaign) by the gue'la. The gue'la Minister of Propaganda would probably agree, but then say something else.

A good day's work!

Seriously, the fluff is getting more and more ridiculous by the minute. There is no attempt to make anything logical or half-way make sense. And it ignores entirely all other established Tau fluff.

Thanks! I was hoping you would notice this! :D

As I'm mainly a competitive player and don't know too much about the lore, what do you think should have happened in this case? Just an ordinary daemonic incursion?

Having the native population falling back to its old religion would have worked too. And wouldn't have been against every behavior T'au showed.

But yes, telling us the planet was usurped is pretty much telling that it's from an imperial propaganda point of view. Unless GW has decided we are no an imperial Empire.

Strictly speaking, the passage doesn't make 100% clear that it was the Tau who carried out the rain dance thing.
It could be that by "giving in" what they did what let the primitive tribes do the dance and so cause the daemonic interference. Possibly?
