[WIP] Tael's Shadow War Kill Team

Hi All,

Been awhile since I've put together some Tau goodies. All it took was for a revival of one of my all time favourite games from twenty years ago. :D

So, onward!

I began making these back in October for a Tau Kill Team, little idea Shadow War was coming. Nice to have a project align with a rerelease that's suits. These first two I think a few folks will remember:

Image

My grim Ion Rifle specialist, previously a veteran for my 40k orientated Kill Team, now perfect for Shadow War:

And now for something totally new, but totally Tael:

Naga'la Lixō, an accomplished auxiliary scout seconded to the counter insurgency team. Wearing a mix of Tau and Naga wargear, she is a valued member and sly fighter.

Image

And.. Muste'la Snax is another example of integrated auxiliary success. His diminutive size allows certain infiltration advantages, including the fact, everything provides him cover. He uses a Pulse Blaster, modded for range, however his rather 'exuberant' appreciation of accuracy reduces the effectiveness. Regardless, field skills and supply traits, such as 'acquiring' unlimited ration wafers for the team, more than makes up for abnormal gunplay.

Yeah, I totally went Rocket Racoon. However this is more Firewarrior Ferret.

"Above you Kuna'Ro!"..

Very nice!
I too was thinking about using auxiliary race for one of my guys but I couldn't really decide on one...maybe when I recruit a new guy during a campaign though. :D

Still need to figure out how to give my Rail Rifle guy a proper cape but then I'm good to go. Gonna start my own WIP thread some time this week i think. :crafty:

Oooo! These are delightful to see, Tael.

I particularly like the individuality you're building in to this team. Once I've got a baseline group painted up for an upcoming store competition I'd like to go back and work on more specialised individuals, representing either specific skills or just for flair.

Are the cloaks your own handiwork or taken from another kit?

Loving the new-look Naga'la! (and everything else of course) Have you got any more angles on that one?

love the idea of auxillaries, wish GW would give the Tau an actual Auxillary unit for troops, something with mixxed stats, like say, your unit has 4 different races it could be mixxed with, and have 4 different stats for those races.

As it is, it would be a bit of an advantage for Tau to be able to take some auxillary units, like fielding at least a few kroot in the kill teams, so we have something that could take advantage of the close combat system, since Tau start off at a huge disadvantage for melee due to low WS, lack of any melee weapons outside of pistols, and the low iniative.

Can't wait to see some paint on your models Tael. Maybe I can get some WIP shots of my SWA kill team.

Cheers guys! :D

@Rizzle, indeed - bit more personality, though other members will appear a bit more.. Red Shirt? :D
The cloaks are from Empire Pistoleers and High Elf Shadow Warrior kits ;)

@Ironsky, thanks man - yup, this is a Naga all dressed up beyond the usual chest carapace. When painted I'll do a few other angles, right now some of the mods are hard to see in WIP plastic grey. :)

@Jemini78, totally agree - but admittedly thats a lot to play balance - suffice to say my house rules are invariably Gue'vesa, but with a couple of stats shifted to balance, but in favour of a trait - Toughness, Shooty, Choppy etc.

Yah seriously guys, get some Shadow War team shots up :D

I loved your grim Ion Rifle specialist, but that Naga really takes the cake. Space lizard forever!

What bit are you using for Snax's arm/gun? It has the tau aesthetic, but I'm guessing third party.

Hey hey :D

HIs gun arm? Well actually both arms are Tau Pathfinder/Breacher kit, I shaved down the upper arms to create a smaller profile, a bit of greenstuff on his left shoulder should even it out :)

I've edited Naga'la Lixō further, to give her a unique carbine, exposed arms ala my Naga'Vesa and more cultural jewllery:

Great work as always Tael, the Shadow War has also brought me back into the Tau way of things, well that and a lot on my friends are now coming over to the Greater Good. :)

I am hopefully going to be around the Orbital a bit more for the foreseeable, mainly to keep an eye on your Shadow War project. ;)

Yes! different angles! SHE looks better with the Kroot arms and your original pulse blaster model, the added jewellery is a nice touch too!

Heya Brokensword! Top stuff, look forward to seeing you hoofing it about the concourse again. Bring on the WIP thread, we demand it! :D

Cheers Ironsky :) Yeah, it was a good initial start, but she lacked overt connection to the Naga, this is more satsfying. I'll do a side by side photo when I finish painting. ;)
